Family fishing

Family fishing charters on Hilton Head

A private boat, a patient captain and a day built around your family. From first casts to bragging-rights photos, this is how great fishing memories start.

Southern Hook is a genuinely family-friendly charter. A private boat with shade, seating and an onboard head, plus supplied gear and licenses, makes for an easy, comfortable first fishing trip for kids.

Fishing with family should be fun, not stressful. Because every trip is private, the day runs at your pace, whether that means chasing bites nonstop or taking breaks for snacks and photos. There is shade when the sun is high, seating when little legs get tired and a head on board so nobody has to cut the day short.

Ian is patient with new anglers and genuinely enjoys helping a kid land their first fish. Calmer nearshore trips are usually the best fit for young families, and bottom fishing keeps everyone busy.

Captain Ian was great with the kids and knew all the best spots between Hilton Head and Tybee Island. We caught around a dozen fish, multiple species, and had a blast!

Good to know

What is the minimum age for kids?

There is no strict age posted, because the right fit depends on the child and the trip. Contact Ian with your children's ages and he will help you pick a trip that works well for them.

Can kids who have never fished come along?

Definitely. Ian teaches as he goes, and the gear is all provided. A calmer nearshore trip is a great place to start.

What should we bring for the kids?

Sunscreen, hats, water and snacks, plus a light layer. You are welcome to bring food and drinks. See plan your charter for a full list.
